RE: Vehicle Selection for Dinghy Towing 2008
Sorry, I should have taken another approch to finding the right towable vehicle. The advice given was taken into account.
Understand, I am not good about buying things I do not want. But I do need a towable vehicle. Thank you for your time.
Looking for RV sites in Florida and the deep south.
I live in Florida and in reviewing some of the posted messages I can see others seem to be looking for RV spots. Here are a few website that may be useful for anyone heading to Florida or the deep south.
First is Florida Camping.com
Next is for anywhere you want to go: Reserve America.com
For any National Parks National Park Service.gov
This one I like: Florida State Parks.org
We all know this one in Tampa, Florida next to Camping world and the RV Lazydays Rally Park telephone number 800-905-6627
And in January is the RV Suppershow also in Tampa near Lazydays
Have a safe trip to Florida or where ever Y'all go down here.
Y'all drive slow now and we say arrive alive. One y'all are here have a cold glass of sweet tea.
RE: Tow Bar broke loose ( update )
I like the others have not had that problem. That is not your concern and I would first call my insurance for for help on the issue. However, your insurance rates may go up or not. They may want a police report and in some states, you have a time limit to report an accident under a set amount. If you are asking what we would do if we were in your shoes. Me, if the damage did not need repair I would not fix it. If I wanted it fixed, I would call my insurance company and ask them. After all you are paying for the service to get it fixed. As for the pin coming out, I like the lock idea and may do that myself. Last thing on the subject, look at the problem closer is the bumper rubber, if so try pushing it back out from inside the bumper. However, if your old men like me have your grandson try pushing it back out. As for parts to the tow bar, you may need to call about replacement parts and cost. Hey, it was an accident, so do not kill yourself worrying so much. Be thankful it did not come apart while on the open road. Whatever you happen to do give thanks, everyone is safe.
RE: Sammy's Web Page
This being a holiday may be the problem with the slow response time. As for the website problem there could have been many users on the same site (SITE OVERLOAD). New web address is now hitting the internet and a change may have taken place with that site address. Soon you will start seeing web address without the (www) prior to a link. All that being said you might want to check your internet browser under tools in the tab internet options, if your computer is running or responding slowly. Every web page that you visit is recorded by your computer into files. You can Delete History, Cookies that all go to slowing your computer down over time. By clearing them out the computer has more room to work for you. But if your computer is not the problem and in your case it may not be I am only thinking of the other 100 or so who may read this having a problem like yours) the problem. One of the best ways to fix a problem on any website is to just call the company paying for it. A call on Monday may be the best way to get the links on the other end working. Web page services have to be paid by a company. Therefore, by contacting the company other than through a website you should see a fast response. It may be that they have to pay the website to be seen. By contacting, the programmers through the site will only get the problem corrected when time is permitted to do so. After coffee, lunch or after time outs. Where as a call to the company site owner may be a faster approach. After all, they are paying for it to WORK! Most large companies have their own computer person and that is a fast way to get them to notice a problem on a site. Really large companies work with two websites, one online for you to work with and another off line for testing and research of the web page. Try calling on Monday, OH yes, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, and may you have a wonderful knew year.
How did you get into a Motorhome?
This is a question that I have enjoyed asking... When asking the question myself I have found some wonderful and fun stories. Some like me got into motor homing because of our pet(s). Some through the company they worked for and enjoyed it so much that they stayed with it. As the story starts, you see a question in each face, seemly wondering why are you asking me this question. Some try to make it short. However, once inside their head you find their true love for the outdoors, the open roads and to see this wonderful country with it's rich history and much more.
As I said, we got into RVing because of our pet. Our story, like most we wanted to go on a vacation, but with our dog it made going anywhere a problem, Most hotels will not permit a pet and some will. One day out of the blue, I got a call from an old Air Force friend asking if we would go to the dedication of the Vietnam Dog HandlersCanine Memorial to be held at Fort Benning, GA. He also informed me without asking our pets were welcomed and could stay at the hotel with us. After it was over my wife and I talked about taking some vacation time, which we had not done in years. We started to explorer the question with friends who had pets. Some were like us with nowhere to leave a pet., until he got a motor home. We explored the idea of owning a motor home and that is another story. We loved it the first time out on the open road. We drove from Florida to Texas to watch my sister’s boy get some Navy wings. He now is a pilot flying the F-18. My wife loves Football and I enjoy baseball, we found that the university Florida State University (FSU) had an RV parking a cross the street from both ball fields. We enjoyed the home games until we lost our pet from old age. She was the beat, always near my wife keeping her company. We found a RV park in North Georgia. Then a short 7 mile drive back into the hills near Blairsville.
Now, I am retired and always looking for the next road trip. I found a wonderful Motor home website called Movinon.netthey have wrote a few books on the subject of road trips along with tons of pictures. To complete this story let me just say, “It is the call of the open road. The total enjoyment and freedom to explor this rich and blessed country of ours.

RE: Suggest a good S.FL campground?
A new camp ground only a few years old, which is a Florida State Park. Named the Alafia River State Park RV Camping Southwest Region
14326 South County Road 39 Lithia, FL - 813-672-5320
It has parking for pop-up and large Motorhomes. Located off the main roads in the woods. You use Google Maps to find it. But the directions are simple. I-75 South to I-4 or if by I-95 South to I-4. Into Plant City Florida and taking Hwy 39 South through Plant City crossing over Rt.60 and crossover Lithia PineCrest Road about 5 more miles on the left heading South on 39. Here is a link from Google Maps;
(( Map of State Park South of Plant City, Florida )
Here is the Park info and website: Alafia River State Park
http://www.floridastateparks.org/alafiariver/default.cfm
Enjoy can not think of the name....
RE: Suggest a good S.FL campground?
I have a few web sites for you and your family. The first is Florida only called Florida Camping.com the next one I found by accident while looking at the www.NPS.gov National Park Service Web. Which I enjoyed very much. The site will show you photos of a campsite taken by the park owners and also some by visitors which you can post after your visit. The next thing is a cartoon type site map showing where you will be located on a lot by numbers or where you may want to post your camp. Last and this is the best part. On the left as you get started tab menu's pop open for more information on your RV needs. www.reserveamerica.com Reserve AmericaLets say you need a special kind of hook ups for your unit. 30 or 50 AMP. or with your needs you have a pop-up. You put the information in along with state location and your families need. The website will search and give you a list of parks with matching information and telephone numbers. The information is free and you do not have to give information about yourself unless you reserve over the internet with a park via RESERV EAMERICA. But you can do that over the telephone.
So have fun camping.....
RE: Vehicle Selection for Dinghy Towing 2008
I stand corrected. However, I am not looking for a full size as I have already stated. I am looking for more room inside a towable vehicle. However, one that will not add that much load on a tow for the motor home. I want to have just one vehicle all together and replace both the Liberty and F-150 I already have.
I will checkout the other models in the GMC line-up. What made me almost overlooked the GMC's, was that CHEVROLET, which is made by General Motors (GM), also makes the GMC, correct?
In looking over the chart, I found limits to speed and stops for the CHEVROLET shown models. I want to stay with American Made vehicles, if possible. With my Unified Tow Brake I do not have to make stops. The battery on the tow vehicle is kept charged when I brake the motor home. I will look at the GMC and I thank you for keeping in the American Vehicle line-up
RE: Vehicle Selection for Dinghy Towing 2008
First, the vehicle you listed is not on the chart. I am not looking for full size truck to pull around. The Jeep Liberty, I have works fine for towing and the same is true for most all of the JEEPS. As for room even with the new Liberty, it seems to me to be a hard fit in the driver’s seat for me. I do like Jeeps for FLAT tow; however, I am a large person who would like more room, for not only short trips but everyday driving needs as well. Looking only at the 2007 Dinghy vehicles for towing, I am truly having trouble finding the right fit. I have gone to JEEP, Chevy, and Ford. I do not care for imports but did look at the Honda Pilot and Honda CR-V FWD/AWD, which was listed. I found it was as stated limited to 65MPH and stops along the way. As for the question of re-charging the battery, I fixed that 4 years back by getting the Unified Tow Brake. So that when I brake, it recharges the battery along the way. I like the idea of FLAT towing, so I do not have to worry about finding a spot of a tow trailer, which may or may not be in the same place in the morning. I feel the jeep is the best so far in my search. However, once inside I have not been happy and have not been able to checkout the Jeep commander. I was informed this would be its last year in 2008. I need a 4x4 only 5% of the time, while most of my driving is Hwy and City at 90% the last 5% is needed for flat towing time
RE: Towing a 4-door Jeep
I have the Unified Tow Brake which keeps my batteries charged each time I brake. The website is www.usgear.com that can give you more information on the Unified tow brake. No, I do not work for the company and no, I do not have to put a large braking box under the dash. Just checkout the website for complete information, hey it works for me.
P.S. I tow a Jeep liberty and have had no problems. Also I found out about the Unified Tow Brake when we went to a RV FAIR In January, in Tampa, Florida.
Vehicle Selection for Dinghy Towing 2008
Motorhome Magazine for 2007 was a good place to start, however, more information is truly needed on the chart selections. Like full time four wheel drive, In reading the "2007 A vintage year for dinghy Vehicles" I found this "automakers are offering a wide array of new dinghy-suitable vehicles to meet your needs. So far, I am still having a selection problem. My question is only for large frame people like me. I am 6 foot tall at 270 pounds, so small type vehicles are out of the question for me. Speed/Distance limits are a problem, along with full time four wheel drive vehicles. I prefer a towable with automatic transmission and no after market changes. Do not refer me to the owners manual, most of what I am looking for is not shown in some books. I also would like a 4x4 that is not high off the ground or to low too the ground. Last, I would like a rear seat area large for passengers like me to fit in. In short, I would like to take both my Jeep Liberty and F-150 king ranch to make one vehicle. If you do not have any true or helpful advice please be kind and do not respond to my question. I am in search of a good fit for me, while away on trips or off down the road to work. We need a vehicle that is rated for RV use by RV users.
RE: Dinghy Vehicle towing
Thanks for your fast feedback on my question. I already have a jeep liberty 4X4 which has been grate as a flat tow (meaning with all four-wheels on the ground). I will miss the little jeep that I found to be larger than a Wrangler inside for passengers at the time. I do not care for after market kits. I did read and enjoy the tips and publication done by MOTOR HOME MAGAZINE; 2007: vintage Year for DINGHY VEHICLES. Well done, it was most informative and a very helpful tool for any dinghy vehicle buyer. However, I need much more information than what was shown. More chart tabs at the top would have been helpful in closing the gap of vehicles. My driving is both 90% hwy and city while 10% is needed for four-wheel driving. I do not care for the FULL TIME FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE vehicles. Do enjoy the Automatic Transmission for every day driving, one that will permit no added miles while being towed. I will return to jeep and checkout the others shown on the chart. Some sales people do not seem to understand the question of a "FLAT TOW VEHICLE" When I say Dinghy they want me to walk away with a trailer or have the car shipped to each location as I drive. I would have also liked some information on tow systems. Most show room books I have seen do not list anything on towing of the vehicle shown. An RV rating on vehicles would be helpful. Last a stamp MADE in the USA under the vehicle manufacture name. Oh well I must be asking for a lot in a tow vehicle.
GAME EVENT PARKING FOR MOTORHOMES.
This is a simple informational page for RVers who enjoy the games. The idea here is to point out, for others where to park for your team and who you may need to contact for that special RV lot/spot for your RV. All post should provide the following in this order:
EVENT:
DATE:
WHO TO CONTACT:
PLACE:
DIRECTIONS:
SPACE SIZE: (36' or 36 foot MAX)
POWER YES or NO: (IF YES 30 or 50 amp service)
WATER YES or NO:
LIGHTS YES or NO: (unknown)
Now you have the idea, so post some helpful information in as much detail as you can.
Post parking locations for Golf tours, Baseball, pro football or collage football games. You will also find that some collages have motor home lots available for your collage or team. Directions are useful for large motor homes operating in unknown away games. Post only RV parking areas or locations near the stadium of the event.
Take care; drive slow and safe; for yourself and me.DO NOT JUST SHOW UP TO AN EVENT WITHOUT CONTACTING SOMEONE FIRST. THE LOTS/SPACE MAY BE FULL.
